Bust it Out Anywhere! Photo Shoot

This weekend I took photos of MY PEACE of JEWELRY earrings at the beach on my self-made WO-MANNEQUIN head-n-bust bust.

MY PEACEs go with me everywhere

Image
I was intending on taking new photos of MY PEACEs outside but it's Friday. What do I do sometimes on Friday? I have pizza and wine. The waitress wanted to see MY PEACEs. I had my new camera, which I really want to learn how to use the various settings. What better way to practice taking photos in low light. With my Canon PowerShot SX120IS set to an ISO of 1600, and an aperture of 2.8, I got these photos. Not too bad. It was really dim in the place. I only had two glasses of red wine and 3/4 of a mini-meat pizza :).

Orignial, Redesign, Redo, Redid

Image
ORIGINAL MY PEACE of JEWELRY Redesign, Redo, Redid. It does not matter what you call it but this particular PEACE, I've redone 4 TIMES! I spend A LOT of hours on this PEACE. I knew what I wanted and I was not going settle for anything less. Above is the PEACE, I originally made. I really did like it. But the problem was the link chain. It's gold-plated link chain. With gold-plated link chain, the ultra-thin layer of real gold wears off leaving a discoloration in various spots of the PEACE; making it not very attractive and cheap looking. Eventually the link chain will tarnish to a black looking color. Don't get me wrong, I like the tarnish (or more fashionable word is oxidized) look, but not tarnished in spots. So to combat the gold-plated link chain, I went with another type of link chain It's an antiqued brass finish. I don't like it. The chain size is too, too, too small. The PEACE just seems off. I wanted the necklace to be a striking PEACE. Here, it just looks ...

How I would wear...

Image
I am going to start posting once a week, how I would wear MY PEACE of JEWELRY because it's always nice to see how a PEACE looks on someone. Also, I photograph my PEACEs on friends, family and strangers to show how my PEACEs can be worn. There is no wrong way or right way, just your way. Please remember, I am not a great photographer. I am still learning how to use all the different options. Here it goes. I am starting with this necklace. It's a 2-strand necklace consisting of big oval wood beads accented with two big round glass Turquoise colored beads. Taken July 20, 2010 MY PEACE of JEWELRY http://www.etsy.com/shop/Zeedubya

Olive Wood Beads!

Image
Here is my latest necklace that I made. It features 3 strands of 12 x 8mm Olive wood oval beads with a Congolo seed as a pendant. The Congolo seed measures approximately 2" hgt x 1.5" width. The necklace is very light. The pendant, which is the Congolo seed is also known as a "Sea bean". These sea-beans don't initially come from the sea. Nonetheless, they commonly drift to and into the oceans and wash ashore, so being referred to as "sea-beans". They come from trees and vines that grow along tropical shores and rain forests all over the world. The seeds fall from their parent plant into waterways, such as the Amazon River, then drift through inlets to reach the ocean. They travel with ocean currents until they wash up on a beach somewhere, perhaps thousands of miles from their origin. Sea-beans are quite hard and buoyant, which helps them survive their long-distance voyage. I don't know exactly where my Sea beans originally come from but I bought ...

Xmas break

Image
I work at UCLA. Because California is broke and need to save money, we employees were given an extra week off (excuse me, it's called a furlough, what a word that I never heard before last year) for Xmas break. We were off from December 21 thru Jan 3. Besides working out, spinning and yoga, I made jewelry. Here is one PEACE I made. It's a 3-strand necklace made of olive wood beads from Bethlehem, Israel. The third strand is spaced with brass/copper bell beads from Morocco and the 1st and 2nd strands are spaced with white colored African trade beads. If you look real close, I forgot to place an African trade bead between two olive wood beads. Ooops! I am not going to restring this necklace. Do you think anyone will really notice? It's a really pretty necklace. Goes with anything. Because I am jean and t-shirt kind of girl, I would wear it with some Levi skinny jeans and white scoop neck t-shirt and some random gold-plated hoop earrings. I don't like to be matchy-matchy....
