WO-MANNEQUIN - DIY or buy from MY PEACE of jewelry on Etsy

I've already posted one tutorial about
out of paper, paste and patience.
It's been 3 years since that post.
For kicks, I thought I'd make a new post
just to see how much I've aged over the years. Ha!
Besides me getting older, nothing else has changed.
I still make each MANNEQUIN with the same materials.

1. paper bags
2. wallpaper paste
3. patience
4. time

Now, when I decided to make this post,
I was already in the process of making another TORSO.
I've sold quite a few on Etsy with great feedback.

I started taking pictures after making one layer over my original MANNEQUIN
I let it dry and now I'm cutting the form from the original MANNEQUIN

After cutting the form, then I separated from the original MANNEQUIN

Here is the form, front and back

Next, need to close the back with tape

Using cardboard to close the bottom and start adding layers with paper mache'

After adding a layer of paper mache', let it dry in the sun before adding another layer

This is where the patience and time plays a very important role for me.
You can't make a GOOD MANNEQUIN in one day
First of all, it has to dry between adding a few layers, in order to get hard and firm.
Second, I have a full-time job, teach Spinning classes part-time and I make MY PEACE of jewelry.
So, it takes me some time to finish
Here's another day, another opportunity add another layer

Another night,

Another day,

Then, finally finished,

  1. I love it! Looks like more work than I had originally thought but smart to make them yourself to sell. They are very expensive to buy from retail supply places.

  2. This is a fabulous tutorial!! I love seeing the process. Plus, the end result is a work of art in itself. I have to add that your amazingly beautiful arms caught my eye as well. So, spinning huh? I have serious sloth-like tendencies but maybe, just maybe...

Hope your weekend is full of great stuff. XXOO

  6. That is incredible that you make your own mannequins. You have much more patience than I.

I like how each one would be unique. A piece of art on it's own.
